The fact that we can sing is evidence of god.

Music is the most intangible of beauty. That we can sing, that we can make instruments sing, something so detached from any biological need or explanation, is evidence of divinity and meaning beyond our physical reality.

I went to the philharmonic at lincoln center tonight. I felt blessed. Sounds kinda creepy, eh? Well I did.

Jimmy Eat World - Gotta Be Somebody's Blues

I never downloaded JEW's latest album, Big Casino, because I thought the first single was pretty weak. But there's some gems - like this one:

If you've never listened to Jimmy Eat World, I think this is their best song:
Jimmy Eat World - Lucky Denver Mint download it
do what the nice lady is asking you

One other striking thing on Big Casino are the lyrics to "Open Bar Reception" a song about a couple getting married:
I should feel we're going somewhere better
But I don't.
Why should we be anything but strangers
In clothes that we don't own?

And while we're on it, I been digging these lyrics too -
Morrisey's How Soon Is Now
There's a club if you'd like to go
you could meet somebody who really loves you
so you go, and you stand on your own
and you leave on your own
and you go home, and you cry
and you want to die

Sigur Ros - All Alright (their first english song)
I want him to know
what I have done
I want him to know
it's bad

Nothing Ever Happened - Deerhunter
. I find these lyrics funny, they are nowhere on the net, but I really like the line:
Nothing ever happened to me
Life just passed and flashed right through me

Ok now. You go and think about all this stuff all these people said and then get back to me with some spreadsheets. Because this will inspire you. And when you feel inspired, make spreadsheets. Just do it.

Best 20 Bucks I Ever Spent Maybe

(perhaps my best 20 bucks was spent on necessary medications and those sorts of things, i am a reasonable person)

Dude. Last night's Sigur Ros show at MOMA was 20 bucks. It was at a small, lovely space. There was free open bar. With Grolsh flippy top beers. And free posters made especially for the show. And ... um ... they played for like an HOUR AND A HALF. And they played wonderfully. And they played the songs I wanted to hear. And so I think sometimes I live a pretty charmed life and am pretty damn lucky to be able to have these kinds of experiences.

Thoughts:
- Integrity. This band has lots of it.
- Pain. Wow, this is some orgasmic "i'm on the edge" music, and damn they are all into it. Pretty serious most of the time. Intense.
- The only time all of them smiled was while playing Gobbledigook, because it's so fun it can't be denied. Not that them not smiling took away from anything. Like I said, they all seemed to be orgasming.
- Lots of fun extras! It was Icelandic Independence Day and they played the national anthem, there was a marching band that came in, they shot confetti into the crowd.
- They are my favorite when the drums are engaged. I can feel it harder.
- The singer was kinda hot even though he dressed like a bird who is a member of an old timey militia.
- He is playing his guitar with a bow! Many of the hairs are ripped. This does not negatively impact the performance.
- Must do some googling. Want to find out what they are singing about ...

Man. Some people really know how to create a positive experience. Not Josh Homme.

Sigur Ros - Ara Batur

this song is EPIC
epic epic epic

I want it all but I can't have it WTF.

(seeing Sigur Ros at MOMA tonight! saw Death Cab For Cutie last tues- check out my flickr for a photo or two. The song "I Will Possess Your Heart" was made great by the liveness and I think it was their standout song of the evening ... before thunder stormed down upon us all)

Saved by Old Times - Deerhunter

This song reminds me of the sleezy t*tty bar in the end of Buffalo 66, which does touch on a purposeful late 70s/early 80s sensibility.
I love the moody sexy vibe. The song's greatest strength is that it takes you somewhere - somewhere dark and grimy with wet dirt, feathered hair and attitude. It drives a Pontiac. Dirty leather and sawdust. A Smith and Wesson 44 Magnum. Mustaches.

stop looking at my immortal soul its private

Radiohead - Nobody Does It Better

My idea of male sex appeal, circa 2004

The Submercer Take the freight elevator down, make two lefts, then a right. Turn the knob on the red unmarked door, and you're in.

Religulous - don't like Bill Maher, but this is a ballsy sign of the times. How modern and surprising that Lions Gate got behind it.

Trent Reznor keeps it real. Sexiest man there is.

This is the first time I've found Kucinich relevant

last night was fun and it's my birthday and i'm really pretty happy

About 150 people turned out for last night's fun. It was so nice to celebrate with them! They were the best audience ever- plentiful and still quiet enough and paying attention.

I haven't uploaded my own video yet, but here's Jake and Amir's performance:

Jake and Amir Live from Amir on Vimeo.

Rob Lathan played Permanent Nutface Gary, Todd Barry did a quick and awesome set, and Cars Can Be Blue - comedy musicians from Athens Georgia, made the night so fun. Adam and I had a blast. Looking forward to sharing more with you.

I guess being 27 is kinda cool.

tonight!

Hope you can make it to the show:

Please arrive at 8pm if you want to get a comfy seat. As you can see there's going to be a healthy sized crowd. Sometimes heathly is used as a creepy word to describe large sizedness.

Alternately, if you show up around 9:30, you'll catch the cake and live music.

If you can't be there with us AT ALL, but still want a piece of the action, check out the live broadcast at 8pm here:

He has a debilitating condition. He will be appearing at my birthday show on Monday to raise awareness. Eddie Vedder recently made this tribute to him:

PS:
Something about emaciated Deerhunter/Atlas Sound singer Bradford wearing this shirt tells me that the we young people are doing all kinds of great things on a regular basis.

Oh and also before I go, I would like to share these feelings:

salad bars are so difficult for me
there are so many delicious foods
and somehow i screw it up when i try to put them all together
and i regret the choices i made
the sauces are touching
why do i bother living

Ok, so now that Obama is the Democratic Nominee

I feel cheated as a woman, that this is the year of Obama.
Hillary is so qualified and deserving of the Presidency and she would serve us well.
But
Obama is the nominee
and Obama is interesting, and far different from anything this country has seen in a presidential candidate. It's cool that he's black. That's the coolest thing about him really, because he symbolizes social progress. I also think it's interesting that we have a candidate who openly admitted in a memoir that he has used pot and coke. He is human, flawed, and from a modest background marked by his extraordinary achievements.
I don't think he's better and more amazing than Hillary. So that's why it hurts as a women. Mediocre men out-do us all the time. Not that Obama is mediocre - this just feels similar.

But I like what he stands for and he seems to be a good guy.
Lackluster when you compare him to Hillary, and to me less exciting than other black political figures, but ok. The reason I use words like "lackluster" is because I feel like I am being fed a lot of hype, and I don't buy hype and pretty speaches. That's not what will sell me on him.

We do need to vote for Obama, even though I like McCain, because McCain isn't going to be able to flush out the executive branch with new staff. He'll have to keep the same bastards there.

We need to have Obama step in and bring all new people in to run the government. So even if you like McCain and are disappointed by Hillary's loss - you have to vote for Obama if you want anything to change.

Hopefully Hillary will at least be VP. It would be extremely insulting if she wasn't. The woman deserves it.

Finksplosion Bday Party show Monday June 9

(ps the more people RSVP the more it helps bring people out, so help a lady out and say yes to fun)

Here's the not terribly flattering pics from last year's Finksplosion.
There's ass in there. What can I say? I like to party.

I'm pretty excited about all of this

I was lying on my bed feeling like a million dollars thinking, goddamn it I am fucking grateful.
For all of this.
I get sad and cry plenty cause I am an emotional woman and I can't keep my shit together sometimes.

So - I'm not super successful or rich or in love, but I am pretty damn satisfied with what I do have.
This weekend I partied too hard so my brains were useless on Saturday and Sunday during the day.
But on Sunday my parents visited me and helped me with my apartment, getting it ready for the summer. They brought up my airconditioners, beach chairs for the roof, and this tempurpedic memory foam thing that goes on top of my mattress. It feels heavenly. I was lying on my bed feeling it, all the simple niceness.

Nothing is perfect.
Nothing is finished being accomplished.
Nothing is certain.

AND IT'S GREAT

I am turning a totally lame age on June 10th - 27. Who cares about that? But it's really kind of awesome right now.
I've been struggling with different things lately - but here's what I do have
FUN
and
MAKING THOSE VIDEOS seriously that makes me so happy
and
KICKASS FRIENDS
and
TINY NYC APARTMENT
and
DAMMIT I am getting my groove back about the whole being single and having fun thing
my explorations are so not over
and
ALL THIS OTHER STUFF THAT IS RIGHT IN THE WORLD

I have everything I need.
The little pleasures are that much more pleasurable
Nothing is perfect, finished, or certain

But I am blessed
and damn grateful

who gives a fuck about occasional tears?
i can afford them
go ahead life, shit on me
i'll be just fine
